As of early 2010 there are approximately 450 pubs and bars in Manchester, the vast majority of which class themselves as pubs. Expand the apron to Greater Manchester and youre talking just over 1000 pubs and around 100 bars.

According to population figures from 2008 that gives these rough people to water hole ratios ;

Manchester : 1032 people per pub/bar

Greater Manchester : 2315 people per pub/bar
